Of Babies and Buns

Here's a lovely set I did for a friend's new baby boy. I'd rather not say how long ago I started work on these pieces. At the time, I told her about my average two week turnaround time.

But then the morning sickness hit. Yes, that's an announcement.

And our basement flooded. Twice. Like inches deep. I had to redo the bottom parts of all the furniture I had been working on down in the basement. Thankfully, nothing was damaged beyond repair.

I kept getting violently ill when I tried to glaze. Apparently the new Bun doesn't like glaze.

Goosebumps!

I have been on the lookout for the perfect dresser for a friend of mine for a long, long time.

Months. Which is a long time to me.

I've bypassed hundreds of "almost" pieces, but I didn't LOVE any of them. I liked them. They were nice. Sometimes even great. But they never gave me goosebumps.

And then I found this...

The veneer is peeling off in sheets. There are gouges and pock-marks all over. The hardware is rusted.

It's gorgeous. I can't wait to get this dreamy piece started...

Another peacock blue coffee table--sold!

I'll admit it. I am growing a tad color-jaded by peacock blue. But then, this is a mercenary blog. And my hobby is a rather mercenary one. I upcycle what sells. And this color sells!

I do love the fleur de lis hardware on this piece (I know that bottom knob is skewed in the picture--it will be fixed shortly!) and the striking black glaze that tones the blue down to jeweled perfection. This table is square with curved legs, a mock drawer in front, and very sturdy, long-lasting construction. It's actually an old table that I bought from Goodwill right after I got married. It's been through plenty of Friday night dinners in front of a movie and late-night popcorn and limeade trysts. But I have a new coffee table now (see my previous post!), so this one received a much--needed facelift and is available to grace a new home with flair!
