Just Dabbling

My sister gets married in May. I get to do a lot with the wedding. And the reception. And the rehearsal dinner, and the family party after the church reception. I get to do the decorating--and the flowers. With help--I think. She is using orange ranunculus.

Aren't they pretty?

But I haven't been doing much upcycling. Just dabbling a bit here and there.

I have been doing a little experimenting, though. See, I've been dying to try the chalk paint that everyone else tried last decade.

So yes, I know I'm behind the times. But that's partly because I keep trying to make there be enough left in the grocery budget to be able to afford the distressingly-expensive quart of that stuff. And since that still hasn't happened, the next-best alternative was to make my own.

So soon, I'll tell you how it went. And show you what I made. And tell you how I liked it.

And someday soon, I'll buy the real stuff and try it.

A Perfect Pair--sold!

Up for grabs are these two matching peacock blue end tables. They have been finished with a heavy black glaze and are ready to add a dose of whimsy to your room!

Upcycled ham

No, I am not turning this into a food blog. For one thing, I use ingredients like mayonnaise and the occasional boxed cake mix, and every one of the ingredients I use has a normal-sounding, easily-pronounceable name. That is not "foodie" enough for a food blog.

For another thing, there are plenty of amazing food blogs already out there, that have a real live purpose, like this one here, where a friend of a friend shares outrageously good recipes that cut the calories. Genius.

Also, as I have said before, this is a mercenary blog to sell furniture, not to share mediocre food recipes that you could have found better versions of on the internet.

This is just a post about how to use up some of that leftover Easter ham. Unless you had lamb for Easter, in which case I can't help you.

He is risen, indeed

I've been too busy with Easter egg hunts and family brunches and dinners to be upcycling much. Instead of painting like I was planning to this weekend, I concocted some coconut lime cupcakes with coconut lime buttercream frosting and toasted coconut birds nests.

Goosebumps!

I have been on the lookout for the perfect dresser for a friend of mine for a long, long time.

Months. Which is a long time to me.

I've bypassed hundreds of "almost" pieces, but I didn't LOVE any of them. I liked them. They were nice. Sometimes even great. But they never gave me goosebumps.

And then I found this...

The veneer is peeling off in sheets. There are gouges and pock-marks all over. The hardware is rusted.

It's gorgeous. I can't wait to get this dreamy piece started...
